Front Cheek Surgery
Natural definition for hollow front cheeks
The front cheek runs from under the eyes, beside the nose, to above the smile lines. When it is hollow, the cheekbones at the sides can look wide and the face can look tired.
Front cheek surgery places an implant, made to fit the shape of your cheekbones, through the inside of the mouth. It adds volume to the front cheeks for a more defined, youthful face.

Who it is for
- Your cheekbones are wide, and the front cheeks under your eyes look flat and low
- Your face looks flat
- Deep smile lines make you look older
- Fat transfer did not make much difference for you
- You want one surgery rather than repeated visits
What is front cheek surgery?
Seen straight on, the front cheek is the area under the eyes, beside the nose and above the smile lines. From the front, it is the largest area after the forehead.
When the front cheeks are flat and broad, or hollow, the cheekbones at the sides can look wide and the face tends to look tired.
In these cases, adding volume with an implant aims for a well-defined, balanced face with a youthful, lively look.
Results vary with your bone structure and skin.
How the surgery is done
The implant is carved to fit the shape of your cheekbones. Surgery follows these steps.
- An incision is made inside the mouth
- The implant is shaped and placed, avoiding the nerves
- The implant is fixed with screws so it is less likely to shift
- The incision inside the mouth is closed with dissolving stitches
The skin of the face is not cut. A small incision is made inside the mouth, so the scar is hard to see from outside.
Aftercare
To help swelling settle quickly and the incision heal cleanly, please follow these points.
- Start using cold packs right after surgery and keep using them until the swelling goes down. This helps it settle.
- Do not eat for 1 day after surgery. For the next 7 days, have soft liquid foods such as thin rice porridge, juice and milk.
- From 2 weeks, you can eat almost normally. Cut food into small pieces, and wait until 4 weeks before eating anything hard.
- For 3–4 days after surgery, wear a compression band on your face. When sleeping, do not lower your head or lie face down. Supporting your head on 2–3 soft pillows eases pain.
- To prevent inflammation and infection inside the mouth, rinse your mouth after every meal and keep it clean.
- Alcohol and smoking slow wound healing. Avoid them for at least 3–4 weeks after surgery.
- During the downtime, take care not to let your face take a hard knock.
Risks and side effects
Results and recovery vary from person to person. The main risks and side effects are:
- Swelling and bruising after surgery or treatment
- Infection or inflammation
- Asymmetry, or a result that differs from what you pictured
- Scarring (when an incision is made)
- Numbness or changes in sensation (often temporary)
