Dorsal Hump Reduction
Smooth the bump on your bridge for a softer look
A dorsal hump is a bump partway down the bridge. It can make your profile look uneven and give your face a harsh look.
Dorsal hump reduction shaves down the bump and places a silicone implant there, creating a smooth bridge in balance with your face. Results vary from person to person.

Who it is for
- The line of your bridge is uneven
- Your profile looks unnatural
- Your hump makes you come across as stern
- You want a smooth bridge line
What is a dorsal hump?
With a dorsal hump, the bridge bulges forward partway down. From the side, the line of the bridge looks uneven, and it can make the face look harsh.
People with a dorsal hump often have a face where the area between the brows sits further forward than the forehead.
Brow height and a dorsal hump
The height of the area between the brows can be sorted into three levels: high, middle and low. People at the low level rarely have a dorsal hump.
A large hump also affects the balance of your face from the front. So the surgery needs to balance the height of the area between your brows with the height of your tip, and the angle between them.
Risks and side effects
Results and recovery vary from person to person. The main risks and side effects are:
- Swelling and bruising after surgery
- Infection or inflammation
- Asymmetry, or a result that differs from what you pictured
- An implant shifting, showing through or becoming exposed (when an implant is used)
- Pain or a scar where rib cartilage was taken (when rib cartilage is used)
- Contracture (tissue hardens and the nose shrinks)
If anything concerns you, you can still reach us on WhatsApp after you fly home.
How the surgery is done
Shave down the bump for a smooth bridge
In the profile diagram, the pink line shows the hump and the dotted gray line shows the target line. In the front diagram, the dotted pink line shows where the silicone implant goes.
Steps in dorsal hump reduction
Shaving down the bump
We shave down the part of the bridge that sticks out. We shape it while balancing the height and angle of the area between your brows and your tip.
Placing a silicone implant in the shaved area
We place a silicone implant in the shaved area, for a clean bridge that lets your profile flow naturally.

FAQ
Common questions about Dorsal Hump Reduction
-
People with a dorsal hump often have a face where the area between the brows sits further forward than the forehead. Its height can be sorted into three levels: high, middle and low. People at the low level rarely have a hump.
-
No. After shaving down the bump, we place a silicone implant in that area to create a smooth bridge.
-
Removing too much from a dorsal hump can leave a dip or deformity. We operate while balancing the height and angle of the area between your brows and your tip. We also perform revisions for people whose hump remained after a previous surgery, or who had too much removed.
-
Surgery takes about 2 hours under sedation, with no hospital stay. Stitches come out after 4–6 days, and recovery takes about 7 days. Plan to stay about a week.
-
It depends on your nose and the materials used. Send three photos of your face — front, side and 45° — on WhatsApp (+82 10-9608-0042), along with your surgical history. We will give you an estimate, and we can also go over it in an online consultation.
-
Nose surgery performed by Dr. Cho is covered by our Rhinoplasty Revision Policy. If a revision (touch-up surgery) is needed within 1 year of surgery, we perform one revision at no surgical fee. The sedation fee is charged separately.
