Should We Leave a Dorsal Hump? – The Truth About Natural-Looking Nose Surgery
KOKO Plastic Surgery,
the first cosmetic surgery clinic specializing in nasal
procedures in Apgujeong, has opened its doors.
With 23 years of surgical experience and expertise,
I am Dr. Jo Bae-jung from KOKO Plastic Surgery.
oday, I’d like to share my thoughts on dorsal hump surgery, a topic many people are curious about.
Do we really have to remove the dorsal hump completely?👃
During consultations, I sometimes hear people say
“Doctor, I’d actually like to keep a little bit of the hump.”
Surprisingly, this kind of request is more common than you might think.
It’s especially frequent among Chinese patients, but some Korean patients also prefer to retain a slight bump rather than eliminate it completely.
To be honest, when it comes to nose surgery, I prefer to avoid implants when possible, and I often lean toward leaving a slight hump.
Why?
Because completely removing the dorsal hump and inserting silicone can sometimes lead to an unnatural result.
Rather than completely changing a person’s features, I believe true aesthetic surgery lies in enhancing one’s unique characteristics in a harmonious way.
My usual advice during consultations👃
“We can just shave the hump slightly and leave a bit of it.
What if we only refine the tip and keep a subtle hump?
That way, we can achieve a more natural result.”
Of course, it depends on the individual case.
For example, if the nose is lower than the forehead, it may need to be raised.
What matters most is finding a shape that suits the individual harmoniously.
Nose surgery is not just about creating a “pretty” nose—
It’s about crafting a natural-looking nose that balances with the person’s face.
