What is Revision Eye Surgery?
Revision eye surgery is a specialized corrective procedure designed to address complications arising from previous eyelid surgeries. Whether you’re facing issues such as excessively thick eyelid lines, noticeable asymmetry, or even a double eyelid line that has faded away, this surgery offers a pathway to refine and improve the appearance of your eyelids. 🌟
Surgery Details:
Duration: Approximately 1 hour ⏰
Anesthesia: Local or sleep anesthesia 💉😴
Hospitalization: Not required 🏥
Stitch Removal: 4-6 days post-surgery 🪡
Recovery Period: About 7 days 🗓️
Who Might Need Revision Surgery?
You may be a candidate for revision eye surgery if you experience:
- A gradually fading or excessively thin double eyelid line.
- An excessively wide double eyelid line with visible scarring.
- Noticeable asymmetry between your eyelids.
- An unnatural appearance of your double eyelid that does not complement your face.
- Residual scars from previous eyelid surgery that you wish to address.
Types of Revision Eye Surgery
TYPE 1: High Double Eyelid Line
- Mildly High: Slightly elevated lines can be corrected using an incision method.
- Excessively High: Severe cases may require adjustment of the line and reduction of excess fatty tissue. In cases of “sausage eyes,” we may reduce muscle beneath the eyelid to correct the indentation.
TYPE 2: Insufficient Double Eyelid Line
- Low Line: If the line is too low or has become an inner double eyelid, we may utilize buried suture or incision methods for correction.
- Lost Line: For completely faded lines, we can restore them by removing sagging skin and reconstructing the line, similar to the original procedure.
TYPE 3: Distorted Double Eyelid
- Triple Eyelid: Overemphasized lines causing weak triple lines can be resolved by adjusting the line and potentially repositioning muscle or redistributing fat.
TYPE 4: Unnatural Double Eyelids
- Strong Indentation: If the line is too pronounced, we will adjust its strength for a more natural look.
- Noticeable Scarring: Visible scars may necessitate a re-suturing method or, in severe cases, dermal fat transplantation from the inner thigh.
TYPE 5: Asymmetry Between Eyes
- For uneven double eyelid lines, we will perform a revision to ensure symmetry between both eyes.
Timing for Repeat Surgery
- General: Accurate assessments are typically possible about 6 months after the initial surgery.
- Simple Rhinoplasty: If combined with rhinoplasty, revisions may be done within 3 months.
- Post-Inflammation: It is advisable to postpone surgery until inflammation has subsided, which could take up to a year.
Postoperative Care Instructions
- Cold Compresses: Use until swelling subsides.
- Sleeping Position: Avoid sleeping face down or on your side. Use soft, stacked pillows to minimize swelling.
- Eye Care: Refrain from excessive tearing, rubbing, or forcefully closing your eyes.
- Avoid Alcohol & Tobacco: For 3-4 weeks to aid in proper scar healing.
- Contact Lenses: Resume wearing after 2 weeks; glasses or sunglasses are recommended during initial recovery.
- Makeup & Eyelash Extensions: Light makeup can be applied after 2 weeks, with eyelash extensions added around 1 month later.
- Avoid Baths & Saunas: Stay away for approximately 3 weeks.
