Precautions after cheekbone reduction surgery

Precautions after cheekbone reduction surgery
Precautions before facial contouring surgery

Cold compress

Until the 4th day after surgery: Apply cold packs frequently (to minimize swelling). Repeat applying cold packs for 15 minutes then taking a 5-minute break.
From the 4th day onward: Please switch to warm packs (to help reduce swelling quickly).

Cleansing/Showering after surgery

Until the 4th day after surgery:

  • Showering: Avoid showering with hot water (cold water is permissible).
  • Cleansing: Gently wipe with a soft damp towel, excluding the surgery area.

From the 4th day onward:

  • After removing the tape from the surgery area, you can resume normal cleansing or showering with warm water, and shampooing is permissible (it is recommended to have it done at a hair salon).

Brushing teeth and gargling

For 2 weeks after surgery: Gargling is required.
Until the removal of drains inside the mouth, perform gargling frequently every day.
After the removal of drains inside the mouth (6-7 days later), gargling is only possible after meals.

Ensure that food does not enter the drains or sutured areas, eat with gauze in place, remove the gauze after eating, gargle, and then replace it with fresh gauze.
You can start brushing your teeth the day after the drain is removed.

* Hours: Weekdays from 11:00 to 18:00, Saturdays from 11:00 to 15:00.
Treatment is provided in the order of arrival, so there may be waiting time.

【Recommended meals】

1.From the day of surgery, eat finely chopped beef in porridge.

2.Soak bread in milk until soft and eat it. (It is recommended to purchase beef porridge, bread, milk, etc. in advance.)

3.Cut foods like tomato pasta or rice noodles with meat into small pieces with scissors and swallow.

4.Stick to soft foods for three weeks after surgery, then transition to solid foods from one and a half months onwards.

5.Avoid bone broth, nuts, and anything containing chili.

6.Reduce carbohydrates and flour intake, and focus on consuming protein (beef).

7.Take vitamin supplements.

・At bedtime

Sleeping in a seated position helps reduce swelling by keeping the face elevated higher than the heart.
Additionally, for the first 4 days after surgery, it is recommended to walk in places like hotel corridors to help reduce swelling.

From 7 to 10 days after surgery and for about a month, lie on your side with a firm book or similar object underneath a towel or thin blanket to elevate your cheeks. (Rotate sides to ensure both sides of the cheeks are elevated.)

・Wearing compression band (Tiger Mask)

Do not remove the compression band until the face tape is removed on the 4th day after surgery.
If it becomes loose, secure it tightly.
Even after removing the face tape on the 4th day, continue to wear the compression band daily for about one and a half months. If possible, it is recommended to wear it for 24 hours. It’s okay to remove it when going out, but try to wear it as much as possible when at home.

・Drain removal

The drain is removed on the 6th to 7th day after surgery. Until removal, gargle frequently every day, and continue gargling after meals even after removal. Ensure that food does not touch the drain or scar, eat with gauze in place, remove the gauze after eating, gargle, then replace it with fresh gauze.

Brushing teeth is possible from the day after drain removal.

・After the drain is removed (7-10 days after surgery), if you experience increasing redness at the surgery area, swelling of the face, or fever, immediately take antibiotics and contact the clinic.

・There may be bleeding inside the mouth. If you feel it is flowing towards the throat or if there is a significant amount, please contact the clinic.

・Starting 1.5 months after surgery, practice opening your mouth. Try to fit in about two and a half fingers.

・Starting from the 7th day after surgery, you may hear a sound resembling water droplets from the cheekbone. This sound will gradually diminish within 1-2 months.

・Starting from 3 weeks after surgery, the bones will gradually begin to fuse, and by around 1.5 months, they should be firmly fused.

・Refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol for 4 weeks after surgery, and try to avoid being in a stressful situation for your body.

・To prevent infection, make sure to take the prescribed medication from the clinic properly.

※Even if the surgery is successful, neglecting postoperative care can lead to problems or even fractures or deformities of the cheekbones. Please understand that postoperative care is as important as the surgery itself.
