Cheekbone

The cheekbones are the most crucial part in determining the contour and size of the face. Both the shape and size, as well as their position, are important. Soft contours of the cheekbones make the face look attractive, but if they protrude too much, it can give a rugged appearance.

In Korea, traditionally, women with prominent cheekbones are perceived as strong-willed. Westerners may desire surgery to enlarge their cheekbones, while Easterners often seek procedures to reduce them. Cheekbone reduction surgery can transform the impression of a bulky appearance into a more appealing one.

What is cheekbone surgery?

There are two types of cheekbones: those that are horizontally elongated and those that are anteriorly elongated, as well as a mixed type of these two.

Cheekbone surgery can be done surgically or non-surgically. Among the non-surgical methods are soft face-off method, incisions behind the ears, inside the mouth, or on the forehead, depending on the individual’s condition, to achieve a soft facial contour.

  1. Swelling and bruising may occur for about 2 days after surgery, gradually improving over the following 2 weeks.

  3. Keeping the head elevated for 2 weeks post-surgery can help reduce swelling.
  4. Avoid alcohol and smoking for 4-5 weeks after surgery to facilitate smooth blood circulation, tissue regeneration, and minimize inflammation and side effects.
  5. Be cautious not to bump or fall for the first 4 weeks until the cut bone has fully healed. When sleeping, lie on your back to prevent pressure on the operated area.
