Hello!
With 22 years of traditional technical expertise, we at KOKO Plastic Surgery in Korea are committed to safe nasal surgeries.
Many people desire a radiant, refined appearance like celebrities or online influencers, leading them to consider cosmetic surgery.
Among facial features, the nose best exemplifies refinement, due to its central location which, when altered through rhinoplasty, can change one’s overall demeanor and facial balance.
When reviewing outcomes of nose surgery, you might find that the same doctor’s work yields various results.
Why do you think that is?
In my opinion, the most critical factor affecting rhinoplasty’s outcome is the “condition of the skin.”
Having specialized in nasal surgeries for over 22 years,
I’ve seen some patients who are very satisfied post-surgery and others slightly less so.
Even with identical surgical procedures and materials, variations in the amount and thickness of the patient’s skin lead to diverse results.
I will now explain the differences due to skin, and I hope you’ll read to the end of the article!
01. The type with a significant amount of skin!
Post-surgery, the gap between the skin and cartilage remains wide, possibly leading to skin collapse. Nasal surgery typically involves adding implants, dermis, or cartilage. However, skin excision should be minimized as much as possible for safety. Excessive skin removal could damage numerous blood vessels, increasing the risk of skin necrosis.
02. The type with overly thick skin!
Post-operative swelling may be more severe, and the recovery time might be longer for this type. Thick skin means a larger area to heal, naturally requiring more time. An extended recovery period for nasal surgery also means prolonged anxiety.
Some patients may recover well in about a month, boasting a beautiful nose, while others may feel uncertain about the shape due to persistent swelling. Usually, swelling fully subsides after six months, and we believe you will be satisfied, but during this period, patients with thinner skin may feel more at ease.
03. The type with overly thin skin!
Using a higher implant may create a see-through effect. Conversely, patients with thin skin also face limitations, such as restricted implant height usage. If you naturally have a higher nasal bridge and prefer a natural nose shape, it’s less of a concern. However, those whose work or personal preferences lean toward a more exaggerated nose shape should opt for taller implants. For patients with thin skin, we advise against high implants due to the increased risk of transparency, which could reveal the nasal surgery.
In conclusion, if you are considering rhinoplasty, please first determine your skin type and understand the surgery’s limitations.
